Elfrieda Abbe named publisher (July 7, 2006)

Elfrieda M. Abbe, who has served as Editor of The Writer magazine for six years, has been promoted to Publisher of two Kalmbach Publishing Co. titles.
In her new position, she will be the Publisher of both The Writer, since 1887 the leading resource for writers, and Bead&Button, the world's leading magazine for the beading hobby. She will also continue in her role as Editor of The Writer.
Abbe is a veteran journalist with wide-ranging experience in newspapers and magazines. For many years she was an editor at The Milwaukee Sentinel, the city's longtime morning newspaper, now known as the Journal-Sentinel. During her 1987-1993 tenure as arts and entertainment editor, The Sentinel's "Let's Go" section won numerous awards.
After working as a publications editor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she joined The Writer in 2000 as Editor, and since then the magazine has won four Folio Magazine Editorial Excellence Awards.
Kalmbach publishes 15 hobby and leisure-time magazines, numerous books and other products, and promotes related information on 20 Internet sites. The company employs nearly 300 people at its office located at 21027 Crossroads Circle, Waukesha, Wisconsin.
